The Northamptonshire & District Rugby Alliance proudly marked a major milestone with the first-ever Women’s Alliance Training Camp, hosted at Mens Own RFC. This historic occasion represents a significant step forward in the development of women’s representative rugby across the district.
The camp welcomed 31 players from clubs across the Alliance, demonstrating strong commitment and enthusiasm for this newly formed pathway. Despite challenging weather conditions and a very wet pitch, the players approached the session with outstanding attitude, energy and determination.
The overall level of engagement across the district highlights the growing strength and ambition within the women’s game.
The session was delivered by an excellent coaching team:
Tom Nightingale (Bugbrooke Girls Coach & Daventry player)
Ash and Meaks (Alliance Committee)
Cas (Bletchley Women’s player)
The focus was on core skills, game understanding and building cohesion within what is a brand-new representative group. From the first whistle, the players fully embraced the intensity and standards expected at this level.
Behind the scenes, additional committee support ensured the day ran smoothly, with logistics, organisation and media coverage contributing to a professional and well-executed event.
We were delighted to welcome the Head Coach and Forwards Coach from EMRU, who attended to observe the session. They were highly impressed with the standard on display.
As a result, five players (1 from BBOB and 4 from Casuals) have been invited to attend upcoming open EMRU training sessions — a fantastic achievement and strong recognition of the talent emerging within the Alliance.
Following the camp, a 23-player squad will be selected, with two places intentionally reserved.
Selected players will receive formal letters presented via their clubs — a fitting and professional touch to commemorate this historic first camp.
This squad forms the foundation of the Women’s Alliance programme and sets the benchmark for future camps and representative fixtures.
