
Alliance Cup Semi-Final
Old Northamptonians progressed to the Alliance Cup Final with a 38–10 victory over Northampton Casuals in a fiercely contested local derby at NSB School.
Despite the three-division gap between the sides, the encounter was played with an intensity and tempo that belied the difference in league status. With less than two miles separating the two clubs, this semi-final carried all the hallmarks of a true local derby—physical, uncompromising, and full of passion.
From the outset, both teams committed fully to the contest. Northampton Casuals produced a determined and spirited performance, taking the game to their higher-ranked opponents with aggressive defence and strong carries. Their work rate and resilience ensured that Old Northamptonians were made to earn every score.
Old Northamptonians, however, showed their experience and quality at key moments. Capitalising on opportunities and maintaining pressure throughout, they were able to build a lead that ultimately reflected on the scoreboard.
While the final score suggests a comfortable win, the reality on the pitch was very different. Northampton Casuals’ performance was full of character and commitment, demonstrating the competitive edge and pride that defines local rugby.
Played at a high pace and with significant physicality throughout, this was a semi-final that tested both sides and provided an excellent spectacle for those in attendance. It was, without doubt, not one for the faint-hearted.
Old Northamptonians now look ahead to the Alliance Cup Final, while Northampton Casuals can take great credit from a performance that far exceeded expectations and highlighted the strength of local competition.
